Shannon's Thanksgiving Day

Hi everyone! I want to start by saying that I miss all of you very much! It has been almost 6 months since I left Spain and I think about it every day. Last year I talked about my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving was last week, on November 22nd and I have some photos to show you of how my family and I spent Thanksgiving. I went shopping the day before Thanksgiving to get all of the food. My mom and aunts cooked on Thanksgiving and my dad carved our turkey. We had a small Thanksgiving this year, only 12 people, but normally we have many more. We ate a lot of food and then watched some football games. My uncles love football. The women in my family don't like to watch football so they sit and talk. It was a fun day but we were all very tired at the end. I want to make another blog after Christmas so you can all see how we celebrate Christmas in America and I am very excited because my brother will come home for Christmas.                                      Shannon

I don't know many things about him yet but he told me that he is from San Diego in Califonia, the west coast of USA. He wants to learn Spanish and he is going to help you with your English. This first week you can ask him more things about his life back in his country.

Marina visited Wellington, New Zealand.

I visited Wellington in New Zealand. It is the capital city of New Zealand, it is in the North Island.
The legend says the city was explored on the 10th century. The city receives its name in honor of Arthur Wellesley, the 1st Duke of Wellington and the winner of Waterloo battle.
Wellington has an oceanic climate: mild and humid throughout the year, the rainiest season is Winter.
There are 410.000 inhabitants in Wellington but it is not the  biggest city in New Zealand, it is Auckland.
People play many sports there, but mainly rugby and soccer.

YOUR LIMERICKS

I know, it has been a long time since you sent me your limericks but... better late than never!!!
I have chosen two poems among the ones you sent to me. I think both are very good and they have some things in common: sport and girls! Here you are:

THERE WAS A PRETTY YOUNG GIRL
WHO LOVED PLAYING FOOTBALL AND VOLLEY.
ONE DAY SHE FELL AND HURT HER LEG.
SHE WENT TO THE HOSPITAL AND TOLD THE NURSE.
THE NURSE TRIED TO UNDERSTAND BUT.. SHE WAS SO YOUNG!!
                                                     by Teresa Limones

THERE WAS A YOUNG WOMAN ON THE BEACH
LOOKING AT SOME YOUNG PEOPLE PLAY A MATCH,
           THE SUN WAS VERY BRIGHT
AND THERE WAS PLENTY OF LIGHT
THEN THE WOMAN FELL ASLEEP ON THE BEACH.
                                       by Andrea Nieto

                       Congratulations Teresa and Andrea!!!!

Closed due to illness!

As you may know by now, I have a very sore throat and I have to stay at home without speaking (which is very hard for me as you may know!!!),
I hope I will be back next Monday.  Meanwhile I leave you a lively song by Jamie McDell, a singer from New Zealand,  to sing this weekend. See you soon!

A new teacher from the USA

Yesterday April 25th, Shannon's mum came to visit us. As she is a teacher of Spanish back there in New Hampshire, she was our teacher yesterday and she told us about her life, her job, her students and she answered all our questions very kindly. There are many differences between her school and ours but she said she liked Seville very much. THANKS MAUREEN, COME BACK AGAIN!!!! We wanted a photo with Shannon and her mother!!!

HAPPY EASTER!!!

As you know, there are different customs in other countries for Easter holidays. In some English speaking countries, especially United States, children love Egg hunt on Easter Sundays.
You can find a lot of information about it HERE.

World Poetry Day 2012

Today March, 21st is the first day of a new season: Spring, but it is also the World Poetry Day. The idea is to promote the reading, teaching, publishing and writing of poems.
Poems are like music because of the rhythm and the rhyme. Look and listen this example:
IF (a popular poem in English) by Rudyard Kipling.

You can listen to more poems HERE. It is an interesting project called FAVOURITE POEM PROJECT where people record videos talking about their lives and read his/her favourite poem. (I recommend you "I'm nobody! Who are you?" by Emily Dickinson)

Some old popular short poems in English are called LIMERICKS. They were often used in Nursery Rhymes. Can you tell me how to write a limerick?

Are you ready to write a poem, maybe a limerick? Come on!!! I will put them in the blog and there is a prize waiting for the best one!!!!

SOMEONE LIKE YOU by Adele

Adele won six Grammy awards some days ago. She is a wonderful singer who has recovered her voice. This is the song some of my students chose as their favourite one. I hope you like it.
